Welcome to the Montreal Declaration on intellectual disabilities website.
This Declaration was adopted during the Montreal Pan-American Health Organisation (PAHO) and World Health Organisation (WHO) Conference on intellectual disability organized by the West Montreal and Lisette-Dupras Readaptation Centres in association with the Montreal WHO/PAHO Collaborating Centre for consultation and research in mental health. This conference brought together for two days (5-6 October 2004) 65 participants and representatives from 17 countries, namely from the Americas , to debate of the importance of the respect of fundamental rights of persons with an intellectual disability. The outcome, the Montreal Declaration on intellectual disabilities , hopes to guide international organizations, as well as civil and public authorities, in their attempts to ensure full and complete citizenship to persons with an intellectual disability.
